Iowa Western Community College Football

Scott Strohmeier, head football coach at Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) has been preparing the past year for the opening season of football at IWCC.  He previously coached at Concordia College in St. Paul, Truman University, and was head coach at North Iowa Community College.

IWCC has 170 youth signed up for football.  IWCC football has 150 youth in the dorms, along with 3 of the 12 coaches.  The main difference with other programs is that the conference will only allow them to play 20 out-of-state youth.  Therefore, IWCC must rely heavily on Iowa youth.

IWCC football attracts three types of players; those who want to come to IWCC, those who feel they are overlooked because they are from a small school, and those with academic needs.  They can have 85 youth on scholarships, but most scholarships are $250-$1500.

Practices will start August 1.  The first game will be September 5.  They will have nine regular season games and three JV games.  The five home games will be at the Council Bluffs city stadium.  Games will be on Saturday afternoons.  The traveling squad will consist of 55 players, but home games are unlimited.
